PHILLIP “DJ DR. PHILGOOD” WILCHER
“From the block.” To summarize, this is what Block 50 Global Radio stands for and represents. Block 50 was founded on the principle of understanding the grind and hustle that it takes to make it in this world. No matter what part of the globe you reside, hard work, persistence, patience, and the ability to go get it is what separates the success from the failure. We here at Block 50 Global Radio understand that mentality; what it means to hustle the block and get it out the mud.
Founded in 2023, the owner/CEO of Block 50 Global Radio, Phillip “DJ Dr. PhilGood” Wilcher, noticed a monumental shift in the landscape of music creators and “the industry.” Post COVID-19, there seemed to be a disconnect between the independent artists’ need for radio and radios’ inflated ego. Hearing the grumblings of both sides, watching the rise of the “social media artist” and witnessing the finesse job being done by radio stations small and big, Dr. PhilGood found a solution. Solutions that would mend the bridge between artist and radio. A solution that illuminated the interdependent relationship that exists amongst the two entities. A fix that would be mutually beneficial to both parties. With this in mind, the solution is Block 50 Global Radio. Phillip wants to show that there is real support for the independent artists on radio.
Phillip has been a part of the music industry as a DJ for over 20 years. In that time, he has amassed a large amount of knowledge and insight. Having DJ-ed for acts like Lil Webbie, DJ Unk, E-40, Soulja Boy and more, Phillip has an up-close look at how the industry morphs and changes. From 24/7 accessibility (social media) to the rise (and fall) of the Soundcloud rapper, Phillip has had an opportunity to speak to artists, managers, A&Rs, label executives and radio personalities alike to gather insight to how the industry looks now and what it will look like in the future.
Looking to put that wealth of knowledge and wisdom to use, Phillip launched Block 50 Global Radio. His mission: to give artists a fair chance to break into the industry and repair the relationship between artists and radio. To accentuate the point that, above all, notoriety starts on the block.
